I apologize for not updating this thing since my last one. I’m still confused by the technological element of wordpress, but don’t worry, reader(s), I will be better from now on.
And now, the real reasons I haven’t been updating:
1. I’ve been back in forth from Philadelphia arranging auditions and seeing a lot of theatre. Recently saw EgoPo’s production of The Diary of Anne Frank, directed by our own Lane Savadove. Quite a lovely piece of theatre put on at the Prince Music Theatre.
2. Big Love, the first mainstage production of the season directed by Melanie Stewart (the chair of our department) recently closed. I played Bella, the matron of the production, complete with a fat suit, an Italian accent, and a bubushka. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you too can do all of this when you come to Rowan University.
Anyway, I figured I’d post a few pictures of that production and tell you a little bit about our production season here at Rowan University.
So, the way that Rowan works is that we have two outlets within the theatre department to perform. First, and most importantly, is our mainstage. These shows are usually performed in Tohill theatre, with the musicals performed in Pfleeger Concert Hall, over in Wilson Hall, or the “music building” as it is affectionately called.
The mainstage season remaining for this school year is as follows:
WILL YOU MARRY ME PINA BAUSCH? directed and conceived by Paule Turner
Dec. 8- 11, 2011- Tohill
FLYIN’ WEST by Pearl Cleage
Feb. 10-19, 2012- Tohill
INTO THE WOODS by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine
March 30- April 1st- Pfleeger Concert Hall
Then, we have the Lab Theatre, our blackbox space in the basement of Bunce Hall. The first lab show of the season was A Steady Rain, a two man show directed by Alex McCarty, adn it was awesome. Our second Lab show is about to open this week.
Here is the remaining Lab Theatre:
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK by Neil Simon, directed by Krysta Grande
Nov. 17-19, 2011
TERA POTESTA, a dance show coreographed and conceived by Greg Anmuth
March 1-3, 2012
VIGILS by Noah Haidle, directed by Jenna Kuerzi (Yeah, that’s me)
April 19-21, 2012
Then, to top it off, we have a student run musical theatre group called Rowan University Musical Theatre Club (RUMTC for short) that usually puts up a show and does a lot of cabarets throughout the year. They put up Seussical: The Musical in the student center pit earlier this semester.
Also! There is Dance Extensions, run by Paule Turner, for dancers to get their groove on. They usually do one beautiful show at the end of the Spring Semester.
This year we know nothing about the show except that it is called “R” and it is being performed in April.
Whew. Long winded post. But anyway, here are some pictures of Big Love:
Hello to everybody stumbling upon this page. Guess I should tell you a little bit about myself, as well as informing you about the school.
My name is Jenna, and I am a senior theatre performance major studying acting/directing/musical theatre/dance within the Theatre and Dance department at Rowan University.
Right now, I figured I’d just write a little post to make sure I know how to actually use wordpress. Excuse the layout and my brevity in this particular post. We’re about to go into tech for the first show of the Mainstage season, Big Love, and homecoming is quickly approaching, so we are all very, very busy.
I’ll update soon, but for now, hi!
