Mitt & Chris

The most interesting characters in the Republican Party, Mitt Romney and Christ Christie had a to be the best tag team partners since Bush and Dick. They had an event in Exeter High School Gym. It was funny to see how both of them dealt with the protesters who manage to interrupt the both of them. Romney sort of brush them off by saying in a country like America everyone had the right to speak, but it be nice if the protesters had a little bit more courteously. Chris Christie on the other hand sort of attack protesters by blaming his predecessor for the comments geared toward him.  Nevertheless Mitt Romney’s best message in that event was that Obama didn’t care about American as much as he did and Obama wasn’t as much experienced in business—private sector—to run the country. Chris Christie on the other hand called Obama a pessimistic person for his best attack on the president and with the crowd being the mostly filled with supporters, Christie took the mob with applauds and cheering.

Saturday’s politics

Saturday’s events were particularly interesting. I got to see John huntsman and Rick Santorum on Saturday. From the looks of John huntsman’s campaign and the turnout of people who came to see him during his visit to one of his Manchester offices, he might not be able to catch 2nd place in this race for New Hampshire. After that quick show and tell from john Huntsman we headed on over to a barn where Rick Santorum was suppose to be having a town hall meeting. Funny story, I was driving following Dr. Caswell trying to stay directly behind him with out too many cars between us. We ended up coming to a fork in the road where a big Cadillac Escalade tried to pop in between our two cars out of nowhere. However, me being the determine driver, not trying to fall behind from Dr. Caswell car, speed up to make sure the escalade didn’t divide us. Now, when we reached the Rick Santorum event that same Escalade ended up pull into the parking lot of barn. And surprisingly, Rick Santorum hopped out of the truck. Talk about cutting of Republican Candidates.

Rick Santorum on the other hand had a lovely turn out of followers and protesters. His main question when I actually heard them was the question of electability. Something he seemed to be extra confident about answering, and even more so he compared his electability to Mitt Romney.

Northeastern University Professor

Last night after along day put behind us, we met with William Crotty, a Northeastern University political scientist. He explained to us political primaries and caucuses that took place during the 1960’s and how the were totally different from what happens today during primaries and caucus. From what I understood from William Crotty’s lecture, during the time of the 1960s, presidential primaries had the same importance of regular day exit polling and did not determine the delegation for a presidential nominee. Nominees were determined at national conventions. And some time during the 60s this process was changed because of the one particular convention where all hell broke loose and there was fighting over miss representation of seats. Professor Crotty also gave us sort of a broad scope of what events are taking place during this weekend and place where we can see the most action in New Hampshire take place.

New Hampshire & Ron Paul

We made in New Hampshire at exactly 1:00pm. Just enough time check in at the Extended Stay Comfort Inn and unload our luggage before we was off to our first event. We pull out of the hotel parking lot at about 1:35 expect to catch Ron Paul speak at the Aviation School near Nashua and by the just our luck we got to the event site and Ron Paul son was introducing his dad to a crowd of about 350 people. The space they had for the crowd was relatively small, but by a string of luck we squeezed in to the crowd and got a good space to see Ron Paul speak and hype up the crowd. He spoke much about personal liberties and how they are basically the same as the economic liberties that the US government deprives from us as citizens.

Something that I disliked about Ron Paul’s speech was how he talked about eliminating the education department. I feel as though someone with my particular background (African American college student) would be severely damage be an act like the one advocated by Ron Paul today. In my opinion what Ron Paul said today about the education department eliminates a lot opportunities given to low-income families for a right to an equal education.

What I did like about his speech was that is spoke to a lot of realisms that common politicians try to down play, like the fact that Untied States of American performs most of its foreign and domestic policy’s like an empire rather than a republic.

Morning Introductions

We left around 8:30 this morning for exit 8A on the turnpike to ron de vu with Professor Caswell and the other student Kevin Sperling at the Crowne plaza. We shared information on tonight’s events, and it seems Ron Paul and Rick Santorum will be at town hall meetings. Mitt Rooney will be hosting a spaghetti dinner, which at this point we are unable to determine if we need tickets to get in or not. We will know more once we are actually in New Hampshire.

Updates you should know about your state (if you live New Jersey) for those who don’t have EZ pass the tolls have went up 50% effective January 1, 2012
